Kids Spreading the ARK of Kindness

Local mom, Maya Smith, executive director of Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation, formed the 21 Days of Kindness initiative and partnered with local groups to celebrate kindness throughout the schools with the #BeKind21 challenge. You can learn more and join the challenge here.

The idea is that it takes 21 days to form a habit and after 21 days of kindness we will all have the habit of daily acts of kindness.

At Lafayette Elementary School, kids are celebrating #BeKind21 by being the “I” in KIND and the “KID” in Kind.

My son shared more with me about the ARK of Kindness which is one Act of Random Kindness at a time. For the person on the receiving end is that unexpected kindness that really brightens someone’s day. For the person on the giving end I would say it is not so random but quite intentional.

The school has an act of kindness listed for all 21 days of the challenge. Today, the suggested act was to give a compliment to as many people as possible. My son asked me, “Mom, do you know what I love about you?” “What,” I replied. “Everything,” he said. My heart grew a little more.

Every day I am reminded how small acts of kindness spread so much love and joy and who doesn’t need more of that?!

I hope you will join us in creating a habit of kindness. If you are not sure where to begin, check out my blog post on 7 steps to create a new habit and follow along with the 21 Days of Kindness series for a little bit of inspiration.

Thanks!
