Coaching Resources for Leaders and Teams

Control the controllables. This simple phrase has been a guide for me through several times in my life. Because the truth is that we cannot control a lot of what happens around us. But we can control how we choose to process information, how we act, and how we choose to influence those around us.

Leaders are the ones who step up and guide people to that space where we have permission to be sad, where we show up fully, and where we can turn doubt and uncertainty into hope and be what we need for ourselves and others.

Belo are two exercises that I use with my clients. You may find them useful for yourself and your teams.

If you would like a guided exercise around these or other coaching tools, get in touch. Or if you have questions about either just let me know.

Sometimes writing down what we can and cannot control helps give us confidence and hope.

This is a simple but powerful exercise. You can use the outline here which is particularly relevant during the global pandemic and the call to shelter in place. Feel free to download and share this page with your team. All you really need to do is write it down on a blank piece of paper with an inner circle and an outer square. Or get creative and use a star inside a quadrilateral. It’s up to you!

This is a very good exercise for overcoming status quo, addressing challenges on a new project, evaluating life changes, etc. If you have questions or would like some guidance on going through this exercise, feel free to get in touch.

gratitude bomb.png

I love this gratitude bomb that Elizabeth Gilbert shared on Instagram so much that I share it with all of my clients.

It is so much more fun that making a list. It is also a great way to let your creativity shine through.

I like to draw a sun with a big ball of warmth in the middle and lines of possibility radiating out from the center. Then add whatever you are grateful for in each of these six categories: community, spirit, home, family, work, body.

Maybe you hate your job but you are especially glad that at this time you still get a paycheck. Maybe you live alone but you have plants or pets. What else counts in your family? Even though we can’t connect in person right now I am loving all of the posts of old friends connecting online when they never thought to do it before. That is community! What are you grateful for? Write down key words, phrases, pictures in each category. Maybe cut and paste from magazines or use stickers. If you make one and share it online, please tag Elizabeth Gilbert and me and anyone else you have listed in your gratitude bomb. I would love to see yours!
