Energy Self-Audit Activity

Rate your current energy levels in four dimensions (scale of 1–5):

  1. Physical: How rested and energized does your body feel?

  2. Emotional: How positively and calmly are you engaging with others?

  3. Mental: How focused and clear is your thinking?

  4. Purpose/Spiritual: How connected do you feel to your values and purpose?

Reflection:

  • What energizes me at work?

  • What depletes me?

  • When do I feel most grounded and purposeful?

  • What’s one small shift you can make this week to elevate your energy in one of these areas?

Think about a moment when you showed up as a strong leader—even in a non-leadership role. How did your energy affect the room or the people around you? What’s the connection between your internal state and your leadership presence?

Leading at all levels begins with energy awareness. The more intentional we are about how we manage our energy, the more capacity we have to inspire, support, and influence others—wherever we are in the org chart.

Designing an Alliance

Agree on an amount of time for this conversation. Consider going for a walk together if that is an accessible option.

Choose 2–3 questions to explore with a coworker. Be curious. Listen to understand, not to respond.

Berkeley NOW Breakout Session Questions

  1. What conditions help you do your best work? What makes it harder?

  2. What is one thing about how you work that you wish colleagues understood better?

  3. How can we support each other when things get stressful or unclear?

  4. Optional: What is one way you'd like our working relationship to be different?

Additional Questions to Consider

  1. What do each of us expect and want from this relationship?

  2. What are the conditions that need to be in place for us to work together effectively?

  3. What are a couple of things that really matter to each of us? (Ex: I want to get credit for my contribution to this project. Or it’s important to me to talk about any issues that come up between us right away)

  4. What are each of your deal-breakers? (Eg: I won’t work on weekends.)

  5. Who will be responsible for what?

  6. What are the potential obstacles to success?

  7. What do we need to get the most out of our work together?

  8. How will we create accountability?

  9. What will we do when things get hard or when one of us fails or makes a mistake?

  10. How will we handle feedback – both positive and constructive?

  11. How will we celebrate successes?

Leaders At All Levels

Think of a way you have modeled leadership in these different ways:

  • Within – Self-awareness and growth, be the change you wish to see

  • In front - Connection and direction, vision and clarity

  • Behind - Coaching and serving, values, let go of ego to serve at the highest levels

  • Beside - Partnership and synergy, passion and purpose of working together and the why, shared vision and intention

  • Field - Intuition and innovation, purpose and integrity, PQ, insight, courage and commitment to act in a way that is innovative and new

What is one way you would like to practice your leadership skills? __________________________________
